The 'Bunting' Dress!

Jersey is perfect for summer weather - it's a comfortable and throw-it-on alternative to more tailored woven clothes.
We've recently received a new collection of Liberty printed jerseys which were calling out for some quick overlocker fun.

The 'Recreate a Favourite Garment' workshop is one of our most popular classes. I wanted to recreate a jersey T-Shirt dress that I wear to death, but is now looking a bit shabby!  During the class, pattern cutter Alice demonstrates how to make a paper pattern from an existing garment. You work on your own garment but you also get to see how other items are copied which is useful. After the class I used the overlocker to make it up in the 'robin' print - cheery rows of brightly coloured bunting, how summery can you get! It was a fairly quick make and because I now have a perfect pattern I can knock out a few more in the winter to team with tights and brogues. I think I might lengthen it by an inch or two next time as looking at the pic is making me want to crawl into the screen and give the bottom of it a tug!

All of the Liberty jerseys have a different content so be sure to check this, for example this one is 95% cotton 5% elastine so is thicker and has more substance than the ones with a high viscose content which are thinner and more drapey.

Blogger 'What Katie Sews' also made a lovely copied dress with our Liberty jersey - take a look at it here.

Take a look at some of our other stretch fabrics for alternatives - bamboo stretch knit, organic cotton jersey and stripes.
