Sunday 14 May 2017

Session: 1

Time: 10.30am - 5.00pm

Level: Beginner Plus

Maximum Class Size: 6

“Moneta” is the name given to this dress that you will be making in this class, the pattern was designed by Colette and is one of Charlotte Newlands favourites! It has a gently curved, wide neckline, a fitted bodice, and a shirred skirt with very practical in seam pockets. Version 1 is sleeveless dress with a lined bodice and a narrow round that laps at the centre back. Version 2 has an unlined bodice and short sleeves, while version 3 has an unlined bodice and 3/4 length sleeves. This very comfortable dress is one that you will find yourself making over and over again until your wardrobe is full!

This class is suitable for anyone who has a good grasp on basic sewing projects (cushions, tote bags, pencil cases, simple tops etc.) and has already completed our Next Steps class or equivalent. Ideally students should have attempted to make their own clothes using a commercial pattern and confidence using the sewing machine is essential. This class is the perfect introduction to sewing with knits!

In this class you will learn the following techniques:

  • Sizing & body measurements

  • Understanding commercial dressmaking patterns and their notations

  • Lay plans and cutting the fabric

  • Techniques that are unique to sewing with stretch fabric

  • Garment construction tips

  • The pattern is included and will be yours to take away but you will be required to bring your own fabric for the garments.
