Prepare for class by bringing images, tears from magazines, garments, or even your own sketches and turn your block into a desirable pattern that is unique to you. During this class you will receive extensive information about not only your design but you will also learn from other students in the class as Alice covers a multitude of ways to alter your block to create interesting garments.
An understanding of how patterns work is an essential part of becoming a good dressmaker. It will save you time and trouble, ensure a good fit and help you unleash your inner designer. Our teacher Alice Prier has a wealth of experience in designing clothes with her own couture clothing practice and has many stories to share with you, you’ll learn a lot more than just pattern cutting!
This class is aimed at confident sewers, you will get the most out of the workshop if you have used commercial patterns before and have experience in making a variety of different garments.

ABOUT YOUR TEACHER
Our pattern cutting tutor Alice Prier originally trained as a theatre designer then set up her couture clothing company Alice & Co over 20 years ago. Creating classic, contemporary day and evening wear with interesting details, using beautiful fabrics and lovely buttons. A self taught pattern cutter she began by rejigging Vogue patterns and taking apart vintage pieces - like many a home dressmaker. Over the years she has become increasingly fascinated in pattern drafting and has concocted some interesting methods using minimal maths whilst achieving an excellent fit. She loves inspiring others in her techniques in her Ray Stitch classes. She is currently also working on publishing some of her designs as home dressmaking patterns. When not whipping up couture creations for her clients or holding forth at Ray Stitch Alice will be touring the world with her travel writer partner - filling her suitcase with interesting fabrics and haberdashery and writing her fashion/travel blog www.where2wearit .com.
