  • Ray-Stitch: An evening with...

Join us for a fascinating evening of discussion to celebrate London Craft Week 2019.

To celebrate London Craft week, Ray-Stitch will be joining our partners Crabtree & Evelyn to host a unique panel event celebrating the skilled work of four esteemed textile artists and curators. This event will take place at the Crabtree & Evelyn special flagship townhouse venue – located on Upper Street, in the heart of bustling Islington, not far from our shop. This bespoke space is a hub for cultural programs curated for and by the local community

London gallery curator Gregory Parsons will chair this talk to spark a captivating dialogue between four highly skilled and talented textile artists, bringing them together in a one-off discussion.  Gregory’s exciting and varied portfolio career spanning design, development, creative consultation and curation will bring a unique point of view to the event. Through his work in both fashion and interiors he has developed a strong and diverse relationship with craft to enable him to curate a fascinating and insightful conversation that will definitely be worth joining us to hear.

Our panel consists of four esteemed textile artists. Richard Mcvetis MA RVA, a textile embroidery artist known for his contemporary and minimalist approach. Using labour-intensive processes he explores the subtle nuances between ritualistic and habitual making.  Abigail Booth, co-founder of Forest + Found and Quilter, who works with artist Max Bainbridge to produce installations and displays using natural and raw materials to navigate the changing concept of the maker. Julie Arkell is a leading UK Folk Artist, using paper-machie and mixed media combined with traditional techniques, she creates distinctly personal creatures. Finally Hand Embroidery Artist Stuart Easton creates intricate pieces, drawing upon folk song, story and social history to tell a narrative.

This two-hour event begins with a 30 minute reception with free drinks and snacks followed by an hour's talk and then a 30 minute Q and A at the end. In addition attendees will receive 10% off at Ray-Stitch and also receive a special discount to use in the Crabtree & Evelyn store on the night.
