Michelle's Teal Tunic

The Sew Liberated 'Schoolhouse Tunic' is one of our most popular selling patterns. We all like to feel comfy sometimes, and a jeans and tunic look fits the bill nicely. We've made two tunics in the shop, Rachel (Ray) made one in our Brannock and Patek brushed cottons, however I wanted something more summery so omitted the sleeves. The teal lace was from my stash at home and I simply used a Liberty print bias binding around the front and armholes.

This is a very simple sew and probably a great choice if you're just starting dressmaking. There are no buttonholes or zips, and the look is very casual so fitting issues should be minimal. I made a size 8 (I'm a UK size 12) and it fits great, although the lace has a slight amount of stretch which helps.

I'll admit that using lace has made it quite a hard item to style. I originally had planned to wear it with a white cotton slip of the same length, but I've found it impossible to find one on the high st. Do I have to make everything?!
