Our Freestyle sewing and dressmaking classes are the perfect solution for those who either need some help with a project or want to make something specific that we don’t cover in any of the group classes. These tutor led evening workshops are designed for those who have a good understanding of how to use a sewing machine but would benefit from some guidance from one of our qualified teachers.

You can come along and set aside some dedicated sewing time with the luxury of spreading out your project, using our tools & machinery and not having to tidy up afterwards! During these weekly sessions you can enjoy the company of like minded people in a friendly environment.

We welcome all projects, bring anything from an untouched pattern to half made garments to vintage alterations. We can guarantee our teacher will be able to tackle anything!

Tools and refreshments are provided. Booking onto one of our classes entitles you to 10% off everything in store from the class date until 2 weeks after.
If you want to start something new that includes techniques you haven’t tried before and would like to book onto a few consecutive classes then you can get in touch to receive a discount.

Book 3 Freestyle Classes for £130 to save £14! Call / email to book and receive your discount.

If you are already a group of 6 sewers and would like to book onto 6 weekly classes then please get in touch and we can arrange a time a teacher to suit your club.

Jess Radley has been sewing for several decades having taught herself on an old hand-turned Singer machine, she learned how to make clothes by taking apart old garments, making patterns from them and re making them. Jess has more recently done formal training in men's tailoring at CityLit and in producing digital drafts of her hand drawn patterns at London College of Fashion. Her current sewing passions range from made-to-measure men's shirts to baby clothes and quilts and she's also designing a range of sewing patterns. Jess loves to pass on her sewing and pattern making knowledge to others by teaching our fledging students.

Penny Follows has sewn since an early age. She was fortunate enough to have a mother who was a skilled needlewoman who created a wardrobe of stylish clothes for them both. Penny’s grandmother, who was also a tailoress, taught and encouraged Penny to sew for herself and from there she has become an experience dressmaker. More recently Penny has worked with Janome as a sewing consultant at John Lewis and taught machine sewing at their flagship store in Oxford Street for a number of years. Penny joined Ray Stitch in 2016 and leads a variety of workshops, sharing her passion and enthusiasm for sewing and making clothes. She combines teaching with running her own business called The Village Seamstress taking most pleasure in creating bespoke garments for clients.
