Make a Button Up Jumpsuit or Dress

Saturday 08 February 2020

Session: 1

Time: 10.00am - 6.00pm

Level: Made Two or More Garments

Maximum Class Size: 6

During this workshop you can make either a cool & comfortable jumpsuit or adaptable, workwear style dress. This new outfit could be the perfect addition to your homemade wardrobe and our class will teach you a few more techniques to help with your future projects.

Level: This workshop is suitable for competent machine sewists who have had some experience in using commercial sewing patterns. Students should have already made two or more garments.

This pattern has four variations which you can mix and match to make your own perfect combination. Both the jumpsuit and dress has a front fastening with elsaticated waist, giving the loose silhouette a visible waist making it more flattering & feminine. All versions feature belt loops, kimono style sleeves and pockets (of course!) You can choose from different lengths for both the trouser/skirt and sleeves. This style offers you the opportunity to learn a range of sewing processes and will improve your confidence in using a sewing machine and in reading commercial sewing patterns.

You will cover the following techniques in class:

  • Understanding more complex commercial dressmaking instructions

  • How to construct an incorporated wasitband

  • How to make patch pockets

  • Garment construction techniques and tips

  • How to create faced side splits

  • One-step button holes

  • Preparation: We ask that you cut out your paper pattern & fabric at home in preparation for the class, this will mean you get more sewing time! You can either come to collect your pattern or we can send it to you in the post, just let us know what you prefer.

Tools and equipment are provided and the pattern is included but you are required to bring your own fabric. We also recommend that you pre wash fabric on 30-40 degrees in the machine, this is to avoid shrinkage after making up your garment!
