Sunday 19 April 2020

Session: 1

Time: 10.00am - 5.00pm

Level: Made Two or More Garments

Maximum Class Size: 6

Are you looking to build on your dressmaking skills? Making a pair of trousers might sound daunting but with our Trouser Workshop you will soon be able to tackle most trouser patterns successfully and with ease.

Level: This is an intermediate class, it is a perfect follow on from our Introduction to Dressmaking 6 Week Course, or ideal if you have already successfully made tops, skirts & dresses and need some guidance with your first pair of trousers.

During this two part workshop you will learn and improve your garment construction techniques such as sewing darts, facing a waistband, attaching front faced pockets and inserting a concealed zip. You will also learn how to adjust the fit of your trousers pattern to suit your shape and measurements. Your experienced sewing teacher will guide you step by step to help you achieve your first successful pair of self made trousers!

You can choose from two sewing patterns that we have carefully selected, which offer you the option of a tapered leg with back patch pocket and side zip or wide leg trouser with side-front faced pockets and a centre back concealed zip.

Materials: Sewing machines, tools & sundry notions are included however you are required to bring fabric for your trousers. We suggest that you pre wash your fabric at 30-40 degrees to avoid shrinkage after your garment has been made up. Refreshments are provided throughout your class.

There are more options for this style so you can make them cool for Summer or warm for Winter!

Tip: Search the pattern number in google to find examples of these garments made up by others, it's helpful to see examples of the trousers made in lot's of different fabrics!

Jess R has been sewing for several decades having taught herself on an old hand-turned Singer machine, she learned how to make clothes by taking apart old garments, making patterns from them and re making them. Jess has more recently done formal training in men's tailoring at CityLit and in producing digital drafts of her hand drawn patterns at London College of Fashion. Her current sewing passions range from made-to-measure men's shirts to baby clothes and quilts and she's also designing a range of sewing patterns. Jess loves to pass on her sewing and pattern making knowledge to others by teaching our fledging students.
