This button-front skirt pattern will see you through the whole year, with a vast array of fabric options, you can make it in anything from a lightweight Cotton Tana Lawn to drapey wool blends and wear with tights in the Autumn. We've made ours in a beautiful slubby demin with tradtional metal buttons for a versatile look. This skirt has a full skirt, in-seam pockets and a curved waistband for a perfect fit, it's comfortable and fun to wear.


Level: This class is suitable for anyone who already knows how to thread up a sewing machine, has a good grasp on basic sewing projects (cushions, tote bags, pencil cases etc.) and has already completed our Next Steps class or equivalent. This vintage simplicity skirt pattern is an ideal starting block to begin your dressmaking journey!


In class you will cover the following techniques:


  • Sizing & body measurements

  • Understanding commercial dressmaking patterns and the notations

  • Lay plans and cutting the fabric

  • Garment construction

  • How to attach a curved waistband

  • One-step Button Holes

  • How to insert pockets


  • All tools and sundry materials are included and the pattern will be yours to take away but you will be required to bring your own fabric. This vintage pattern ranges from size 6-22, please see below for meterage. Please be aware that this is a vintage pattern so sizing does come up quite small, and the sizing is more like a modern day 4-20 we have shown the waist size so please compare this to cut the right size.

    Suggested fabrics: Drapey Light - Medium Weight Cotton, Laundered Linen, Crepe, Silk, Viscose, Cotton Voile or Lawn, Lightweight Wool Blends, Twill, Chambray, Poplin. This is a one full day workshop, we will provide lunch and refreshments throughout the day!

    ABOUT YOUR TEACHER

    Moyna Hamilton studied clothing technology at London College of Fashion before going straight into the fashion industry and working as a pattern cutter. For over 18 years she worked for a wide range of companies from designers to high street suppliers and, after having children, she also successfully set up and ran her own children’s bed linen and accessories company called Eazy-Tiger. More recently she has been teaching in primary and secondary schools and is pleased to be combining her experience in schools with her years of experience in fashion to teach others the art of sewing, pattern cutting and making their own clothes.
