Intro to Garment Making: Make a Merchant and Mills Dress - Two Days

Maximum class size: 6

Level: Intermediate; Suitable for students who are confident with a sewing machine and  have completed our Introduction to Sewing Machine Course or equivalent.

Choose one of Merchant and Mills classic dresses - all ideal starting blocks from which to begin your dressmaking journey.

ETTA - A simple wrap dress with a lined bodice and inseam pockets, features 3 sleeve options.

TRAPEZE - Relaxed flared cut to be worn loose, features 3 sleeve options.

FLORENCE - A sweet swingy top or dress with a button back detail and soft high low gathers.

THE FACTORY DRESS - Inspired by working women, with a dash of the Twenties, the Factory Dress slips over the head, features pockets and ready-rolled up sleeves.

ELLIS AND HATTIE - Choose Ellis or Hattie, sleeveless or sleeves. Both feature four delicate neck darts, Ellis is waisted, with set in sleeves and inseam side pockets. Hattie has a lined bodice, dropped waist and bold patch pockets.

SHEPHERD SKIRT - Relaxed flared cut to be worn loose, features 3 sleeve options.

Be guided from start to finish through every stage of making your own dress, including:

  • Sizing and Body Measurements
  • Understanding complex commercial patterns and their notations.
  • Garment construction techniques and tips

The pattern is included in the class but you will be required to bring your own fabric. If this is your first garment we recommend that you choose a plain, easy-to-sew fabric.

Booking a class at Ray Stitch entitles you to 10% off everything in-store and our team will be happy to help and advise on fabric choice and requirements for the pattern you choose. 

Please take a moment to read our cancellation policy before booking: Unfortunately our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is also very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances. In the event that we are forced to cancel a class, we will endeavour to give you as much notice as possible and offer either a full refund or swap your booking to another suitable date.
