Hand Quilting with Sarah Hibbert

Maximum Class Size: 6 Students

Join modern quilter and collage artist Sarah Hibbert for a joyful day of hand quilting and fabric piecing.

Working along the lines of a log cabin block, patchwork your pieces together. Consider colour and texture and let the fabric decide where it would like to be placed - allow your creativity to flow!  You may wish to work with larger pieces to show your quilting style or with narrow strips to create colour.  You will be aiming for a block around 10” square.

When your blocks are complete, Sarah will talk you through a variety of different ways to quilt your work and add texture before finishing off the piece, either by a simple binding or face binding. We hope you’ll join us for a day full of colour, threads, and exchanging quilt stories.

Level: You will need to be reasonably confident with a sewing machine to attend this class.

Materials: All tools and materials are included. Sarah always works in linen as she finds it more tactile. A selection of plain linen colours will be supplied in class but please bring along any additional fabrics you would like to work with. This class also works well with cottons.

Refreshments: Hot drinks, cold drinks and snacks will be available in the workshop throughout the day. There will be a break for lunch - lots of places nearby sell food or you are welcome to bring a packed lunch into the workshop.

About Your Teacher: Sarah Hibbert is a modern quilter influenced as much by art and architecture as quilting heritage. Often starting with traditional quilt blocks and giving them an improvisational twist – Sarah’s use of textural fabric, hand stitching, natural, rich tones and clever, but limited use of prints has seen her work show internationally as well as being acquired for both public and private collections.

Sarah has an established social media presence  @quiltscornerstone and @cornerstonecollages, and also headlines The Festival of Quilts.

Sarah also published her first book in 2022, From Collage to Quilt
