Patchwork for Beginners - Techniques
Maximum Class Size: 6
Level: You will need to be reasonably confident with a sewing machine to attend this class.
This one-day workshop will teach you how to create 3 of the most popular and effective patchworking techniques; Log Cabin, Flying Geese and Split Bar.
Using these methods you will make 3 patchwork pieces and choose one of them to complete a finished, quilted sampler.
Techniques covered in class:
- Three methods of patchwork piecing.
- Basting methods.
- Various machine and hand quilting methods.
- Binding: Back to front, Double fold, Colour break insert.
- Handling curved seams.
- Chain piecing.
- How to choose the best equipment, tools and supplies.
Materials: All tools and materials are included. We will be using plain cotton fabric for the samplers, quilt wadding and threads are included. *If you would prefer to bring your own fabric along to the class please email us regarding quantities and suitability.
Refreshments: Hot drinks, cold drinks and snacks will be available throughout the day. There will be a break for lunch during which time you are welcome to bring in and eat a packed lunch in the workshop or have a wander out and buy food from various places nearby.
Booking the class entitles you to a 10% discount in the Ray Stitch shop for one week from the date of your class.

Our classes are non refundable. Due our small class sizes it is very difficult to transfer your booking to a different date. If you cannot attend a class and are able to notify us at least two weeks before the class starts, it may be possible to fit you in on another date but this is not guaranteed so please give us as much notice as possible to increase your chances.
