One Day Workshop - Dress - Choose Your Own Style
Maximum Class Size: 6
Using two of our favourite patterns as a basis, choose from the many style variations in either:
A. The Assembly Line Balloon Sleeve Dress
B. McCalls 7948 Tiered or Pleated Dress
Plain, tiered, pleated, balloon sleeves, straight sleeves, no sleeves... take your pick! We'll guide you through all the steps and teach you new skills and techniques to improve your dressmaking and gain confidence in garment construction.
Level: This workshop is suitable for those who are already confident sewers and have had some experience making simple garments. Ideal for those who are looking to advance their garment construction techniques or for self taught dressmakers who would like some expert guidance.
You will cover the following techniques in class:
- Reading and understanding commercial dressmaking patterns and their notations.
- Gathering/Pleating.
- Attaching facings for a neat & professional looking neckline.
- Attaching set-in sleeves.
- Finishing seams and hems.
- Inserting an invisible zip (Dress A)
Materials: The pattern is included but you will need to bring your own fabric, ideally pre-washed.
Preparation: We ask students to prepare for this class by cutting out the paper pattern and fabric in your size before arrival. If you need help choosing your size or selecting fabric please let us know. You can either collect the pattern from our shop or we can post one out to you - we'll contact you after booking.
Fabric Recommendations: Laundered or lightweight linen, light needlecord, cotton chambray, medium weight woven cotton, double gauze or printed light to medium-weight cotton. *For the ballon sleeve version choose a lighter weight fabric.
